Get started

Install Linux with Termux

Andronix runs your Linux distribution inside Termux, a free, open-source terminal app for Android. Set up Termux once, run one command, and you're running real Linux. No root required.

Install Termux from F-Droid, GitHub or Google Play (Android 11 or newer for the Play version). Andronix never bundles Termux.
Known issue: on some Android 9 phones with a 4.4 kernel, desktops may show a black screen. The command line still works, and the installer warns you.

Step by step

From Termux to a Linux desktop

  1. Install Termux

Download Termux from F-Droid, GitHub or Google Play and install it.

  2. Open Termux

Launch Termux once and wait for it to finish setting up its base packages.

  3. Pick a distro and a desktop

In the Andronix app, or with the command builder below. Choose "No desktop" for a terminal-only install.

  4. Run the command in Termux

The installer checks your phone, downloads the distro, unpacks it and installs the desktop. When it finishes it prints how to start your distro.

  5. Connect to the desktop

Run andronix desktop to open it in Termux:X11 (nightly, universal-debug APK), with sound. VNC viewers work too.

  6. Keep it up to date

Run andronix update in Termux to update the installer and your distros.
